Tears to the anterior cruciate ligament sideline more athletes for longer periods of time than almost any other acute injury. Seasons, even careers, end when the ACL tears!
There is an alarming rate of knee injuries in our student-athletes. athletes. Each year in the United States, one in 100 female high school athletes will suffer a serious, season ending injury. It is estimated that female athletes are 6-10 time more likely to suffer an ACL injury. In sports such as basketball, soccer, tennis and cheerleading, the risk for ACL injury is higher because these sports involve cutting, jumping, landing, and pivoting.
The estimated cost of an ACL injury per athlete, including surgery and rehabilitation, is approximately $17,000. In addition to the cost, this type of injury can result in the loss of a scholarship and the inability to return to their sport at the same level. Not to mention, the impact on the student-athlete’s mental health and wellbeing.
Our injury prevention program starts with a complete screening to assess your child’s risk for ACL injury. The program includes strengthening and training exercises and teach athletes the proper form and technique for cutting, pivoting, jumping and landing that can help decrease the likelihood of a non-contact ACL injury.
