They may be attached to tendons, bones, ligaments, or even cartilage. Whatever the muscle is attached to will move as the muscle moves. Some muscles move because you force them to, such as bending your arm or leg. Other muscle groups are completely involuntary, such as the muscle that makes up your heart. Each muscle group in your body has a specific task to perform. Muscles require oxygen to function properly. The more use they get, the stronger they are.
Types of Fibers That Make Up Muscles
Your muscles consist of numerous bands of protein strands. These strands get bunched up, allowing for a greater level of protection for your body. The more layers each muscle group has, the stronger the muscle has the potential to be. Each layer protects your body more, which is why the muscle groups that cover your outer skeleton are crisscrossed.
How Many Types of Muscles Are There?
Your body has three different muscle types. The first type is striated muscles. These are the muscle groups that cover your skeleton from the outside. The second type of muscle is smooth. These muscles are always totally involuntary. Their tasks require them to follow impulses sent out by your brain and always keep working. The best example of a smooth muscle is blood vessels like your arteries. Their job is to pulse, bringing blood around to the different extremities of the body as needed, and then back to the heart. The third type of muscle is cardiac. This is the type of muscle that created and functions as your heart.
Some groups of muscle will only ever be involuntary. This means the muscle groups do their job without you having to make a conscious choice. A prime example of this is in the trachea. The other muscle groups are voluntary. This means you must make the choice to move that part of your body. A prime example of this is using your fingers to type, or wiggling your toes to warm them up. Your body consists of multiple muscle groups that work together to keep you safe and moving effectively.
What Do You Need to Do to Take Care of Your Body’s Muscles?
Your muscles need movement to remain healthy. This is a big problem when you struggle with pain. Sometimes your muscles hurt so much that moving hurts. This can make the muscles that desperately need to move and stretch even more painful. The best way to get past muscular pain is to stretch and use the muscles carefully as they heal. However, when the pain gets intense, that can make using your muscles nearly impossible. That is when you should seek out the help of a professional.
If you are not to the point of struggling with constant pain, then make sure you start each morning with a bit of stretching. You should stretch your arms, legs, back, neck, and torso. That way, each part of your body gets warmed up before you go anywhere. If you can, you should do more of this throughout your day as well. You should also make sure to exercise at least three days each week. Make sure that you change out what muscle groups you work so they are all evenly able to remain strong. If you can do a workout for 30 minutes per day, this is great for your body. Ideally, you want to exercise 30 minutes per day, seven days each week. However, this is not always possible.
Common Muscle Injuries
There are many different injuries that can happen to your different muscle groups. Some of the most common muscles to sustain injuries include the neck and back, legs, and shoulders. However, any muscle can struggle with injury. If the injury is due to lack of use, then more use will help. On the other hand, you may need to rest if the injury came from overuse. If you were in some type of an accident and it caused an injury to your muscle, you may need to rest it and slowly get back to using it over time.
One of the better ways of treating muscle injuries is through physical therapy. This helps your muscle learn to function without the pain, by slowly introducing proper movements. Physical therapists go through a lot of schooling to make sure they know how to help your body heal. They learn what positions your body needs to be in to function like normal. Then, they help your body get back to working the way it should through a series of exercises. They will teach you which exercises will best help your body, and teach you the right position your body should be in for relief. If you consistently keep up with your exercises, your muscles will begin to repair and you will find relief.
